EU introduces customs duties on low-value e-commerce packages

The European Commission has welcomed the decision by EU Member States to introduce a €3 customs duty per item on e-commerce parcels valued below €150, effective July 2026. This temporary measure aims to protect the competitiveness of European businesses by creating fairer conditions between online imports and traditional retail, while addressing the surge in e-commerce goods entering the EU. It will serve as a bridge until the EU Customs Data Hub is established in 2028 as part of broader customs reform.
