Export requirements for poplar (Populus spp) wood to Japan

Starting December 17, 2026, Japan will be regulating poplar wood from countries where Scolytus multistriatus (European elm bark beetle) is present including Canada and the United States. Poplar wood arriving on or after this date will only be accepted if:

  • it is accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate and
  • it is heat treated to a minimum core temperature of 56 degrees Celsius for a minimum of 30 minutes including at the core

Previously poplar wood was not regulated by Japan.

Exigences pour l’exportation du bois de peuplier (Populus spp) vers le Japon

 

À partir du 17 décembre 2026, le Japon réglementera le bois de peuplier provenant des pays où Scolytus multistriatus (le scolyte de l’orme européen) est présent, y compris le Canada et les États Unis. Le bois de peuplier arrivant après cette date sera accepté seulement si :

  • il est accompagné d’un certificat phytosanitaire et
  • il est traité à la chaleur pour atteindre une température minimale de 56 degrés Celsius pendant au moins 30 minutes, y compris en son cœur.

Auparavant, le bois de peuplier n’était pas réglementé par le Japon.
