G7 Development Ministers’ Chair’s Summary – Fostering partnerships for economic prosperity

Ministers responsible for international development cooperation in the G7 met in Washington, D.C. on October 17, 2025, alongside the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings, to strengthen partnerships with emerging markets and developing countries. They emphasized modernizing development cooperation, reforming multilateral institutions for better performance, and addressing global humanitarian crises including in Gaza, Haiti, Sudan, and Ukraine. 

The meeting included engagement from Indonesia, Peru, Qatar, and South Africa, exploring ways to reduce investment barriers and enhance private sector growth through initiatives like the G20 Compact with Africa. Ministers reaffirmed G7 collaboration as vital to fostering mutual prosperity and pledged continued efforts under Canada’s leadership, with anticipation for France’s G7 presidency in 2026.
