ILA and USMX reach tentative agreement

Further to our update provided on October 2, the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) announced Thursday evening that they have reached a tentative agreement on wages and have agreed to suspend strike action until January 15, 2025, to return to the bargaining table to negotiate all other outstanding issues.

Effective immediately, all current job actions ceased, and work covered by the Master Contract among the US East-Gulf Coast ports will resume today in all 36 container ports under the ILA’s jurisdiction. Media reports by the BBC indicate that, under the tentative agreement, wages would go up by 62% over the next six years. Negotiations continue over a number of issues, including automation. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cn8jxnn76qwo
