ILA Ratifies a New Six-Year Contract for East and Gulf Port Employees

The International Longshoremen's Association (ILA), representing 45,000 East and Gulf Port employees, have ratified a new six-year contract with the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) valid until Sept. 30, 2030.

Contract negotiations between the ILA and the USMX came to a standstill in October 2024 resulting in a three-day strike affecting 36 Eastern and Gulf ports. The two groups were able to reach an agreement on a wage increase for affected employees bringing an end to the strike, however, concerns surrounding the potential for increased automation at the ports were still unresolved until the two groups agreed on a deal in January 2025.
