The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has amended the aquatic animal health requirements for Atlantic herring (Clupea harengus) imported from the United States (U.S.) for the end use of dead bait. Previously, Atlantic herring for dead bait originating from the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Virginia only required an import permit.
As of June 20, 2022, imports of Atlantic herring for dead bait from the above listed states must also be accompanied by the export certificate from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) FOR THE EXPORT OF LIVE AND DEAD, WILD-HARVESTED MARINE FINFISH AND THEIR GERMPLASM AND CRUSTACEANS FOR BAIT AND FEEDING TO AQUATIC ANIMALS FROM THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA TO CANADA.
Importers should advise their exporters that the export certificates can be obtained from their local NOAA office: NOAA in Your State & Territory | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

L'Agence canadienne d'inspection des aliments (ACIA) a modifié les exigences relatives à la santé des animaux aquatiques concernant le hareng de l'Atlantique (Clupea harengus) importé des États-Unis (É.-U.) aux fins d'utilisation finale comme appât mort. Auparavant, le hareng de l'Atlantique utilisé comme appât mort provenant des états du Connecticut, du Delaware, du Maryland, du Massachusetts, du Maine, du New Hampshire, du New Jersey, de New York, de la Caroline du Nord, de la Pennsylvanie, de Rhode Island, de la Caroline du Sud et de la Virginie ne nécessitait qu'un permis d'importation.
À compter du 20 juin 2022, les importations du hareng de l'Atlantique comme appât mort en provenance des états mentionnés ci-dessus doivent également être accompagnées du certificat d'exportation de la National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) des États-Unis POUR L'EXPORTATION DE POISSONS À NAGEOIRES, DE CRUSTACÉS SAUVAGES PÊCHÉS ET DE LEURS GERMOPLASMES DES ÉTATS-UNIS D'AMÉRIQUE VERS LE CANADA AUX FINS D'UTILISATION COMME APPÂT ET D'ALIMENTATION DES ANIMAUX AQUATIQUES.
Les importateurs doivent informer leurs exportateurs que les certificats d'exportation peuvent être obtenus auprès de leur bureau local de la NOAA : La NOAA dans votre état et votre territoire | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
