India-Canada Joint Statement: 2025 Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment

During an official visit to India from November 11 to 14, 2025, Canada’s Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, met with India’s Minister for Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, to hold the 7th Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment (MDTI). This meeting followed directives from both countries' Prime Ministers and a recent joint statement emphasizing trade as a key pillar of bilateral economic growth. The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the India–Canada economic partnership through ongoing dialogue and collaboration, highlighting the significant growth in bilateral trade, which reached US$23.66 billion in 2024, with a 10% increase in merchandise trade over the previous year.

The ministers welcomed the expansion of two-way investment flows and emphasized the importance of maintaining a transparent and predictable investment environment. They identified strategic sectors for deeper cooperation, including critical minerals, clean energy, aerospace, and dual-use technologies, and stressed the need for resilient and diversified supply chains, particularly in agriculture. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress made and agreed to continue ministerial engagements with trade and investment communities in early 2026. They concluded their discussions in New Delhi on a positive note, committed to maintaining close communication and building on the momentum of their economic partnership.
