Minister Sidhu to attend G20 Trade and Investment Ministerial Meeting in South Africa

This week, the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, is attending the G20 Trade and Investment Ministerial Meeting in Gqeberha, South Africa, where he will engage with global counterparts on key priorities such as inclusive growth, industrialization, sustainable development, and WTO reform. 

Minister Sidhu will also promote Canada’s trade diversification strategy and support Canadian businesses abroad. The G20, representing over 75% of global exports, recently welcomed the African Union as a member, amplifying African voices. Canada’s new Africa Strategy aims to deepen economic ties with the continent, with South Africa being one of Africa’s most diverse economies. Bilateral trade between South Africa and Canada reached $2.91 billion in 2024, including $582.3 million in Canadian exports.
