Minister Solomon in Welland to announce regional tariff relief to help businesses compete, build and transform

On January 12, 2026, the Honourable Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), visited Kit Steel Inc., a family-owned reinforcing steel (rebar) fabricator. While there, the Minister announced support for the first four projects approved through the Regional Tariff Relief Initiative, representing more than $3.4 million in investments for businesses affected by trade disruptions: Havelock Metal Co., Kit Steel Inc., Steelcon Fabrication Inc., and Titus Steel Company Ltd. The Minister was joined by Chris Bittle, Member of Parliament for St. Catharines.

This funding will help these businesses to undertake targeted and time-sensitive investments to modernize and transform their operations, strengthen their supply chain resilience, and enhance their competitiveness at home and abroad. These investments will help them to emerge stronger and better positioned to achieve long-term economic prosperity. For information on the projects, refer to the backgrounder.
