The Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister responsible for Canada‑U.S. Trade, and the Honourable Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, met with leaders from Canada’s oil and gas sector to discuss priorities for the upcoming CUSMA joint review. The ministers and industry representatives emphasized CUSMA’s central role in preserving an integrated North American energy market that supports jobs, competitiveness and continental energy security.
Participants highlighted the need to maintain preferential access for Canadian energy products, modernize CUSMA rules to reduce administrative burden, improve border efficiency and strengthen regulatory certainty for businesses operating across North America. Both ministers underscored the importance of close government‑industry collaboration to ensure Canada is well positioned heading into the review and to build on the long‑standing Canada–U.S. energy partnership.
