New import requirements for ash wood products from the United States

The D-03-08, Phytosanitary requirements to prevent the introduction into and spread within Canada of the Emerald Ash Borer, Agrilus planipennis Fairmaire has been revised and will be published on the CFIA website soon at: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/plaveg/protect/dir/d-03-08e.shtml

Thus, effective February 21st, 2011, the following import requirements will apply:

From non-regulated states in U.S to Canada

44.01.22.0122.09 Ash wood chips

44.03.99.0151.08-Ash bark and bark mulch

A Phytosanitary Certificate with an additional declaration stating that 'The wood/bark chips in this consignment are less than 2.5 cm in any two dimensions' will be required instead of a certificate of origin.

A Compliance Form for Transport of Regulated Articles will also be required.

44.03.99.0131.07 Ash logs

44.18.60-0144.01 Ash posts and beams

44.06.10-0140.20 Ash railway sleepers

If the commodity was Approved or if a certificate of origin was required, a Phytosanitary Certificate with an additional declaration stating that 'The article was produced/ harvested in a state where EAB is not known to occur based on official surveys' is now required.

If a Phytosanitary Certificate was required, an additional declaration stating that 'The article was produced/ harvested in a state where EAB is not known to occur based on official surveys' is now required.

In all cases, a Compliance Form for Transport of Regulated Articles will also be required.

Shipments not meeting these requirements will be refused entry to Canada. The Phytosanitary import requirement for ash products and the complete list of regulated states are available in the directive D-03-08.
