New requirements for aged unpasteurized cheese from France

Canada and France have agreed on new conditions for aged unpasteurized cheese made from cattle or buffalo milk. Import of this commodity was previously restricted due to outbreaks of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD). Beginning March 6, 2026, aged unpasteurized cheese meeting the new conditions may be imported with a zoosanitary certificate. Unpasteurized cattle or buffalo cheese produced in France before May 26, 2025 is also still eligible to enter Canada with documentation showing the production date. Please refer to Lumpy skin disease – Countries that Canada recognizes as being free from the disease for further details on import restrictions due to LSD.
