New restrictions due to Foot and Mouth Disease in Hungary and Austria

Please be advised that a further outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) has been identified in Hungary, with restrictions extending into Austria. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is implementing import restrictions for the commodities listed below from Austria to safeguard the health of Canada’s livestock and mitigate the economic impact of a potential FMD outbreak in Canada. Restrictions are already in place for Hungary.

  • FMD Susceptible species:
  • Suidae (pigs, wild boar)
    • Bovinae (cattle, bison, water buffalo)
    • Caprinae (sheep, goats)
    • Camelidae (llamas, alpacas, vicunas, guanacos, and Bactrian camels)
    • Antilopinae (antelopes, gazelles, blackbucks, springboks, gerenuks, dibatags)
    • Cervidae (deer, elk, moose, caribou, reindeer)
    • Any cloven-hooved (two-toed) animals not listed above
    • Insectivores (tenrecs, hedgehogs, shrews, moles)
    • Giraffe and okapi
    • Tapirs
    • Hippopotami
    • Xenarthra (anteaters, sloths, armadillos)
    • Aardvarks
  • Affected commodities of FMD susceptible species:
  • Live animals and germplasm
    • Uncooked meat and meat products
    • Raw milk and milk products, including unpasteurized cheese
    • Unprocessed manure
    • Laboratory material
    • Blood products
    • Raw or unprocessed pet food
    • Raw hides, skins, wool, antlers, horns, hooves
    • Any other non-heat-treated products or byproducts from species named above
    • Animal feed and equipment that have been in contact with affected animals

Products and by-products from affected species collected or slaughtered before the date of the critical monitoring period are eligible to enter Canada, but the date of slaughter or collection must appear in the documentation. If there is no date of slaughter or collection on the certificate, then the signature date of the certificate will be used.

Shipments of affected commodities originating from susceptible species originating from Austria must be accompanied by certification that they were collected or slaughtered prior to February 25, 2025, or else the signature date of the certificate must be prior to February 25, 2025.

An additional message will be sent if some regions of the country are recognized by Canada as free of the disease and imports from these free zones may resume.

Nouvelles restrictions dues à la fièvre aphteuse en Hongrie et en Autriche

Veuillez noter qu’une nouvelle éclosion de la fièvre aphteuse a été signalée en Hongrie et que les restrictions s’étendent à l’Autriche. L’Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments (ACIA) met en œuvre des restrictions à l’importation des produits énumérés ci-dessous en provenance d’Autriche afin de préserver la santé du cheptel canadien et d’atténuer l’impact économique d’une éventuelle épidémie de fièvre aphteuse au Canada. Des restrictions sont déjà en place pour la Hongrie.

  • Espèces sensibles à la fièvre aphteuse:
  • Suidae (porcs, sangliers)
    • Bovinae (bovins, bisons, buffles d’eau)
    • Caprinea (moutons, chèvres)
    • Camelidae (lamas, alpagas, vigognes, guanacos et chameaux de Bactriane)
    • Antilopinae (antilopes, gazelles, cerfs noirs, springboks, gérénuks, dibatags)
    • Cervidae (cerfs, élans, orignaux, caribous, rennes)
    • Tous les animaux à sabots fendus (à deux doigts) qui ne figurent pas dans la liste ci-dessus
    • Insectivores (tanrecs, hérissons, musaraignes, taupes)
    • Éléphants
    • Girafe et okapi
    • Tapirs
    • Hippopotames
    • Xenarthra (tamanoirs, paresseux, tatous)
    • Oryctéropes
  • Produits concernés des espèces sensibles à fièvre aphteuse :
  • les animaux vivants et le matériel génétique
    • viandes et produits carnés crus
    • lait et produits laitiers cru, y compris les fromages non pasteurisés
    • fumier non traité
    • matériel de laboratoire
    • produits sanguins
    • aliments pour animaux crus ou non transformés
    • cuirs bruts, peaux, laine, bois, cornes, sabots
    • tout autre produit ou sous-produit non traité à la chaleur provenant des espèces susmentionnées
    • les aliments pour animaux et les équipements qui ont été en contact avec les animaux affectés.

Les produits et sous-produits des espèces affectées abattues avant la date de la période critique de surveillance peuvent entrer au Canada, mais la date d’abattage ou de collecte doit figurer dans la documentation. Si aucune date d’abattage ou de collecte ne figure sur le certificat, c’est la date de signature du certificat qui sera utilisée.

Les expéditions de produits concernés provenant d’espèces sensibles originaires d’Autriche doivent être accompagnées d’un certificat attestant qu’ils ont été collectés ou abattus avant le 25 février 2025, ou bien la date de signature du certificat doit être antérieure au 25 février 2025.

Un message supplémentaire sera envoyé si certaines régions du pays sont reconnues par le Canada comme indemnes de la maladie et les importations en provenance de ces zones indemnes pourront reprendre.
