The CFIA has been made aware by the Canadian Industry that notices are circulating announcing that, starting immediately, all wood packaging materials exported from Canada to the USA now need to be heat treated or fumigated as per the ISPM 15 requirements. The notice states that this change is due to the recent Avian Influenza outbreak and that every truck entering the U.S. will undergo inspections to ensure that the pallet standards are met.
The CFIA confirmed with the US authorities that this information is false. No changes have been made to the requirements.
In 2005, an exemption was established for the movement of wood packaging between the U.S. and Canada (wood packaging materials do not need to be treated and stamped). To be exempt, the wood packaging must be accompanied by export/shipping documents clearly stating that any unmarked wood packaging in the shipment was:

This exemption applies only to the Continental United States. Wood packaging imported from or exported to Hawaii and U.S. territories is not included in the exemption and thus need to bear the ISPM 15 mark.

Aucun changement aux exigences pour les matériaux d’emballage en bois vers les États-Unis
L’ACIA a été informée par l’industrie canadienne de la circulation d’avis annonçant qu’à partir de maintenant, tous les matériaux d’emballage en bois exportés du Canada vers les États-Unis doivent être traités à la chaleur ou fumigés conformément aux exigences de la NIMP 15. L’avis précise que ce changement est dû à la récente épidémie de grippe aviaire et que chaque camion entrant aux États-Unis fera l’objet d’inspections pour s’assurer que les normes relatives aux palettes sont respectées.
L’ACIA a confirmé avec les autorités américaines que cette information est fausse. Aucune modification n’a été apportée aux exigences.

Cette exemption ne s’applique qu’à la partie continentale des États-Unis. Les matériaux d’emballage en bois importés ou exportés vers Hawaï et les territoires américains ne sont pas inclus dans l’exemption et doivent donc porter la marque NIMP 15.
