Ontario Imposes 25% surcharge on U.S.-bound Electricity

At a news conference this morning Premier Doug Ford announced that Ontario will impose a 25% surcharge on "all U.S.-bound electricity, as part of its retaliatory measures against U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs on Canadian goods."

This surcharge, an estimated $300,000 to $400,000 per day, will be collected by the province's electricity system operator and will be used to support workers and businesses affected by the U.S. tariffs.
