Prime Minister Carney to diversify Canada’s trade, attract new investment, and secure new economic partnerships with visit to Qatar

Prime Minister Mark Carney will visit Doha, Qatar, on January 18, 2026 as part of Canada's plan to double non‑U.S. exports and attract major new investment. During the visit, he will meet with the Amir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to advance Canada‑Qatar economic ties, promote Canadian exports, expand market access, draw investment into Canada, and build new commercial partnerships in sectors such as artificial intelligence, infrastructure, energy, and security. The stop in Qatar forms part of a broader international mission that includes travel to China from January 13 to 17 and participation in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos from January 19 to 21, underscoring Canada’s push to diversify trade and deepen global economic engagement.
