Prime Minister Carney meets with Premier of the People’s Republic of China Li Qiang

Prime Minister Mark Carney met Chinese Premier Li Qiang during his first official visit to China, where both leaders highlighted renewed momentum in Canada‑China relations following months of high‑level engagement and the first Canadian prime ministerial visit since 2017. Their discussions focused on global economic shifts, trade challenges, and opportunities for deeper cooperation, and they welcomed several new memorandums of understanding covering energy, crime prevention, modern wood construction, culture, and food and animal health as the basis for a new strategic partnership. Carney underscored the potential for expanded trade and investment, particularly in energy and agriculture, while both sides affirmed the importance of revitalizing bilateral cooperation across economic, security, cultural, and people‑to‑people exchanges.
