Rail Car Sealing and Seal Number Requirements

CN has published the following information regarding cross border sealing and seal number requirements.

Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) requires that all loaded shipments crossing the border in either direction are affixed with high security seals, and that the seal numbers are transmitted on the EDI rail manifest. This is a mandatory carrier requirement within CBSA’s trusted trader Partners in Protection program (PIP).

CN’s participation in PIP is a key element in minimizing CBSA inspections and expediting freight. To meet this CBSA requirement, shippers must transmit seal numbers on their EDI bills of lading.

Further information on the requirement is available in the CN bulletin.
