Secretary of State Sarai hosts G7 Development Ministers’ Meeting and participates in 2025 annual meetings of WBG and IMF

The Honourable Randeep Sarai, Secretary of State (International Development), concluded a visit to Washington, D.C., where he convened G7 development ministers and participated in the 2025 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the IMF. Representing Canada alongside Minister François-Philippe Champagne, Sarai held high-level discussions with global development bank leaders to promote sustainable investment and innovative financing, highlighting Canada’s $544 million in portfolio guarantees announced at the G7 Leaders’ Summit.

On October 17, Sarai chaired G7 ministerial discussions focused on fostering partnerships with emerging markets, enhancing global supply chain resilience, and reforming international aid systems. He also launched the G7 Infrastructure Investment Council, led by FinDev Canada, to boost infrastructure investment in developing regions. The meetings addressed global crises and reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to humanitarian aid, while reinforcing its leadership in advancing inclusive, secure, and sustainable economic development.
