Suspension of export certificate for mollusc from Chile

Suspension of export certificate for mollusc exports from Chile for culture

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the export certificate “Aquatic Animal Health Export Certificate- Cultured molluscs intended for culture in British Columbia, Canada”. This certificate was primarily used for export of cultured Crassostrea gigas oyster seed from Chile to British Columbia for aquaculture use.

The CFIA received communication from The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (SERNAPESCA) that Chile has decided to not pursue further negotiations to finalize this export certificate. The Automated Import Reference System (AIRS) has been updated to refuse entry for import of C. gigas from Chile to Canada for aquaculture purposes. Importers interested in importing C. gigas/molluscs from Chile for aquaculture purposes are advised to contact their local CFIA district office for guidance.
