Update to the procedure for importation of casings from the U.S.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has negotiated importation conditions with the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) for casings from the United States (U.S.).

Important updates are as below:

  • The letter of guarantee which accompanied each casings import shipment is no longer required
  • U.S. processing establishment must be approved under Agricultural Marketing Service Export Verification (AMS EV) Program for Canada. List of EV approved establishments can be obtained from https://www.ams.usda.gov/services/imports-exports/natural-casings-ca

A one-month transition period will be provided, ending on May 15, 2025. During the transition period, the CFIA will continue to approve shipments with previous import requirements. After the transition period, current requirements negotiated with FSIS will be apply.

Mises à jour de la procédure d’importation des boyaux en provenance des É.-U.

L’Agence canadienne en inspection des aliments (ACIA) a négociée les conditions d’importation en collaboration avec le Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) pour les boyaux en provenance des États-Unis (É.-U.).

Les mises à jour importantes sont les suivantes :

  • La lettre de garantie qui accompagnait chaque envoi d’importation de boyaux n’est plus requise
  • L’établissement de transformation américain doit être approuvé sous le programme Agricultural Marketing Service Export Verification (AMS EV) pour le Canada. La liste des établissements approuvés peut être consultée à l’adresse suivante https://www.ams.usda.gov/services/imports-exports/natural-casings-ca

Une période de transition d’un mois sera accordée, et se terminera le 15 mai 2025. Durant cette période de transition, l’ACIA continuera d’approuver les envois présentés avec les anciennes exigences d’importation. Après cette période, les exigences actuelles et négociées avec le FSIS s’appliqueront.
