Updates made to this D-memo

This memorandum replaces Memorandum D19-13-2 dated March 23, 2022. The following changes have been made:

  • Updated and amended definitions: ammunition, cartridge magazine, firearm parts, receiver/frame, semi-automatic, pepper-spray projectiles, prohibited firearms, Non-resident Firearm Licence Possession Acquisition Licence, and Possession Acquisition Licence (page 3-16)
  • Added to Firearms (para. 3)
  • Unregulated firearms updated notes for clarity (para. 4)
  • Amend prohibited firearm with more technical definition (para. 7)
    Note: The duplicate "(e)" paragraph headers are considered correct as written in the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) Section 84 (1).
  • Added bullet on firearm parts (para. 17)
  • Example provided (para. 23 (d))
  • Example provided in (para.46 (a)) for prohibited device
  • Added the requirement for a firearms licence for magazines (para. 53)
  • Added Global Affairs Canada (GAC) import permit is required for the importation of newly acquired restricted handguns (para. 89 (d))
  • Change title in (para. 120) from "firearm part" to "firearm component"
  • Updated notes to included "Presentation of a canadian firearms Licence is necessary to import ammunition" (para. 148)
  • Updated information on Public Officer (para 170)
  • New title – "Goods Held for Determination" (para. 190)
