Updates for import of processed pork from Italy

A new Official Meat Inspection Certificate (OMIC) for import of processed meat from Italy will be in use as of December 16, 2024. Shipments of uncooked processed pork from Italy certified before December 16, 2024 must be presented with an animal health import permit, an OMIC, and a zoosanitary certificate or Annex to the OMIC with the following statements: 

With regards to African swine fever (ASF), the products or by-products of swine described in this certificate:

  • were not derived from any animals that originated in farms located in any infected zone or restricted zone due to ASF. This includes all areas listed as a restricted zone in part I, II and III of Annex I to Commission Implementing Regulation 2023/594 and,
  • were not derived from animals slaughtered or processed in an establishment that also slaughters, processes or handles animals originating from any area listed as a restricted zone in part I, II and III of Annex I to Commission Implementing Regulation, 2023/594 and,
  • were not derived from animals slaughtered and/or processed in establishments located in any area listed as a restricted zone in part II and III of Annex I to Commission Implementing Regulation 2023/594.

There will be an 8 week transition period from December 16, 2024 to February 15, 2025. During this time period holders of an animal health import permit for uncooked processed pork will receive an amended import permit. Shipments arriving in Canada during this period are acceptable if they meet either the old or new import conditions.

Shipments of uncooked processed pork certified after February 10, 2025 must be presented with an import permit and the new Official Meat Inspection Certificate. The zoosanitary certificate or annex will no longer be required.

Mises à jour concernant l’importation de viande de porc transformée en provenance d’Italie

Un nouveau certificat officiel d’inspection des viandes (COIV) pour l’importation de viande transformée en provenance d’Italie sera utilisé à partir du 16 décembre 2024. Les envois de viande de porc transformée non cuite en provenance d’Italie certifiés avant le 16 décembre 2024 doivent être accompagnés d’un permis d’importation zoosanitaire, d’un COIV et d’un certificat zoosanitaire ou d’une annexe au COIV contenant les déclarations suivantes : 

En ce qui concerne la peste porcine africaine (PPA), les produits ou sous-produits du porc décrits dans le présent certificat :

  • n’ont pas été obtenus à partir d’animaux provenant d’exploitations situées dans une zone infectée ou une zone soumise à des restrictions en raison de la peste porcine africaine. Cela inclut toutes les zones répertoriées comme zones réglementées dans les parties I, II et III de l’annexe I du règlement d’application 2023/594 de la Commission et,
  • ne proviennent pas d’animaux abattus ou transformés dans un établissement qui abat, transforme ou manipule également des animaux originaires de toute zone figurant sur la liste des zones réglementées de l’annexe I, parties I, II et III, du règlement d’application 2023/594 de la Commission, et,
  • ne sont pas dérivés d’animaux abattus et/ou transformés dans des établissements situés dans une région répertoriée comme zone réglementée dans les parties II et III de l’annexe I du règlement d’application 2023/594 de la Commission.

Une période de transition de 8 semaines est prévue du 16 décembre 2024 au 15 février 2025. Pendant cette période, les détenteurs d’un permis d’importation sanitaire pour la viande de porc transformée non cuite recevront un permis d’importation modifié. Les envois arrivant au Canada pendant cette période sont acceptables s’ils répondent aux anciennes ou aux nouvelles conditions d’importation.

Les expéditions de viande de porc transformée non cuite certifiée après le 10 février 2025 doivent être accompagnées d’un permis d’importation et du nouveau certificat officiel d’inspection des viandes. Le certificat zoosanitaire ou son annexe ne sera plus requis.
