US Members of Congress send letter regarding forced labour and CUSMA

On September 17, four United States (US) Members of Congress, each current or past chairs of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC), sent a letter to the Trade Representatives for the US, Canada, and Mexico. They are seeking greater cooperation between the three countries based on their Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) obligations regarding the importation of goods produced with forced labor and “urging robust implementation of existing forced labor import prohibitions”.

These four representatives led the effort to pass the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) in the US and are hoping the UFLPA can serve as the framework for legislation in Canada and Mexico.
