The General Agency Agreement (GAA) / Standard Trading Conditions (STC) package that was made available to members on December 22, 2023, is written for the CARM environment and was accompanied by guidelines to assist members when they meet with clients to sign the general agency agreement and power of attorney (“GAA”) with attached standard trading conditions (“STC”). The GAA is the key document by which the client authorizes the customs broker to perform certain business transactions and other services for the client; it creates an agency relationship between the client and the customs broker. The STC set out certain standard terms and conditions that apply to the agency relationship that the GAA creates between the client and the customs broker. The STC are incorporated into, and form a part of, the GAA.
