Amendment 11 to the Energy Efficiency Regulations Update

NRCan has provided a list of HS codes that they are proposing to add to the ACROSS system. The items in yellow are the new HS codes NRCan has identified for newly-regulated products under Amendment 11. The items in red are codes that will be deleted as they do not contain a regulated product.

Export and import price indexes, February 2012

The following is a 12 April 2012 release by Statistics Canada. Current- and fixed-weighted export and import price indexes (2002=100) on a customs or balance of payments basis are now available. Price indexes are listed from January 2002 to February 2012 for the five commodity sections and the major commodity groups (62 exports and 61 imports).

The following is a 12 April 2012 release by Statistics Canada. Canada's merchandise exports declined 3.9% and imports edged up 0.2%. As a result, Canada's trade surplus decreased from $1.9 billion in January to $292 million in February.

As Mexico booms, Canadian exporters benefit

The most alarming statistic in Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney’s trade speech last week was this one: among Group of 20 countries, only Britain has lost a greater share of international trade since 2000 than Canada. Some trading nation, eh? Canada’s share of imports by the world’s major economies shrunk over the past couple of decades, with one exception: Mexico, the unsung hero of the global economy.

CBSA Message: Change to UN dangerous goods code

The following is a CBSA message (EDI12-033) Please be advised that effective August 25, 2012, the requirement to submit the UN prefix for the dangerous goods code transmitted in the cargo maps for ACI Air, ACI Marine, ACI eManifest Highway and CSA (Customs Self Assessment) Highway, will be removed. Effective this date, the dangerous goods code will be numeric 4 (n4) only. The ACI Air, Marine, eManifest Highway and CSA Electronic Commerce Client Requirements Documents (ECCRD) will be updated accordingly.

Arthur Donner and Doug Peter argued in Monday’s Globe and Mail that Canada’s current account deficit “is far more serious than the fiscal problems facing the federal government,” asserting that the CA deficit “represents a leakage of output, jobs and incomes to other countries.”
