The following is a 30 March 2012 news release by Export Development Canada. Export Development Canada (EDC), Canada’s official export credit agency, and Sberbank of Russia, Russia’s largest commercial bank, today announced a trade finance partnership that aims to increase Canadian trade in the Russian Federation. Under the agreement, EDC will provide USD 275 million in financing to Sberbank to support transactions where Sberbank’s customers are buying Canadian supply and services. EICS: Steel Import Monitoring

This is to inform importers, brokers and other interested parties that, effective April 1, 2012, all steel imports currently covered under the Import Control List of the Export and Import Permits Act will be subject to either General Import Permit No. 80 - Carbon Steel (GIP 80) or General Import Permit No. 81 - Specialty Steel Products (GIP 81). Henceforth, no shipment specific import permits will be required for the importation of steel products into Canada.

2012 Federal Budget Highlights The CSCB has completed a high-level review of the 2012 Federal Budget. The following items may be of interest to members: - As part of the Action Plan on Perimeter Security, pilot projects will be held at Prince Rupert and Montreal where goods are screened once and accepted by both Canada and the U.S. In addition to these pilot projects, the Government will take other measures to implement action plan commitments and other border improvements over the next two years;

The following is a CBSA message (EDI12-028) Sunday, April 1st, 2012 EDI Inbound Outage: For maintenance purposes, between 05:00 and 09:00 (Eastern Time), we will be unable to process inbound traffic for the following EDI applications: Electronic Releases, RNS, CSA, ACI Marine, ACI Air, ACI eManifest Highway as well as Rail and Highway Cargo. CADEX and CUSDEC B3s and AO release queries transmitted to the CADEX system will not be affected by this outage. We regret the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.
