CFIA Message: NISC Contact Information

In an effort to modernize operations at the National Import Service Centre (NISC) and the NISC Satellite Office (NSO), the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has implemented new technology to support the process of transmitting import documentation. Canada inks China trade deals, hails investor pact

China and Canada on Wednesday signed a series of deals to boost modest levels of bilateral trade and finished negotiations on a foreign investment protection pact after 18 years of talks. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, keen to boost oil exports to China and thereby reduce reliance on the U.S. market, said the investment agreement would help increase trade. CBP Issues Updated Bonded Warehouse Manual

The following is excerpted from a 6 February 2012 news release by CBP. U.S. Customs and Border Protection announces today the release of the updated Bonded Warehouse Manual for Customs and Border Protection Officers and bonded Warehouse Proprietors. Bonded Warehouses provide storage facilities for imported cargo that is pending importation into or exportation from the United States. The Bonded Warehouse Manual was last updated in 1990. Correction Period for January Softwood Lumber Permits

Brokers are advised that the correction period for JANUARY 2012 Softwood Lumber permits ends February 9, 2012, at 17:00 ET. We remind you of the importance of submitting correct information on permits as this is imperative to the operation of the Softwood Lumber Agreement. Employment was virtually unchanged in January, and the unemployment rate edged up 0.1 percentage points to 7.6% as more people searched for work. CTCS Grandfathering - CCS (US) Recognized

We are pleased to announce that the CCS (US) designation has been added to the list of designations for CTCS (Certified Trade Compliance Specialist) grandfathering. Currently, the CTCS designation recognizes the existing expertise of those who hold the CCS, PFF, CITT, CITP and CCS (US) designations. Grandfathering, available until March 31, 2012, means that one can attain the CTCS designation without the requirement of enrolling in the CTCS program of study.
