CBP Announces Pilots for Rail and Sea e-Manifest

U.S. Customs and Border Protection today announced that it has been successfully receiving manifests in the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) e-Manifest. The pilots, which began in November, focus on transitioning full rail and sea manifest capability to ACE from the legacy system. Message to Brokers and Importers: Changes to Commodity Codes for Agricultural Products, effective January 1, 2012. Canada is making changes to tariff item numbers in the List of Tariff Provisions in Canada’s Customs Tariff Schedule (SOR/2011-191). These changes will come into force on January 1, 2012. The commodity codes of the following agricultural goods will be affected: broiler hatching eggs; chicken and turkey fat; cream of more than 6% fat; shell eggs; and wheat and barley. A summary of the changes can be found in the Notice to Importers No. 811.

As indicated in previous messages to members, the CSCB has continued to pursue the issue of waivers for late accounting penalties for paying December’s K84 after its due date of December 30th. We are pleased to advise members that CBSA has agreed to our request, and, as a result, have issued the following. As a result of discussions between industry and the CBSA, this notice supersedes previously issued CCS Bulletin #1229 concerning the payment of the December 2011 K84 Monthly Statement.
eManifest Update

The ACI/eManifest project, long on the trade community’s agenda, is reaching the final stages of consultation. Yesterday, CSCB representatives participated in a day long walkthrough exercise of ACI/eManifest in all modes. Other participants included representatives from CBSA and other key trade associations. The goal was to identify gaps in policy and process that require immediate, additional work. Both the private sector and CBSA left with “to-do” lists.
