Designated Border Ports of Entry for Feeder and Slaughter Horses Entering Canada from the United States The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is implementing new measures to verify that horses are being humanely transported in accordance with the Health of Animals Regulations. Effective January 1, 2012, all shipments of feeder and slaughter horses entering Canada from the United States by ground transportation will be required to proceed through designated ports of entry. Shipments will only be accepted during the CFIA’s regular hours of operation.

The following is excerpted from a 31 October 2011 release by Statistics Canada. Real gross domestic product (GDP) rose 0.3% in August, following increases of 0.4% in July and 0.2% in June. The energy sector accounted for most of the increase in August. Excluding the energy sector, real GDP was unchanged.

The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today released The Fiscal Monitor for August 2011. Highlights There was a budgetary deficit of $3.6 billion in August 2011, compared to a deficit of $5.8 billion in August 2010. Revenues increased by $0.7 billion, or 4.1 per cent, reflecting increases in most revenue streams. Program expenses were down $1.3 billion, or 6.2 per cent, largely reflecting a decrease in transfer payments. Public debt charges decreased by $0.2 billion. The entire document is available here:
