Frozen pork from the European Union

The purpose of this message is to inform you that effective July 4, 2011, the frozen pork TRQ from the EU imported under tariff item No. 0203.29.00 of the Customs Tariff has been filled and therefore all imports to July 31, 2012 will be subject to the European Union Surtax Order. The surtax is applicable in the amount equal to the value for the duty (100%) determined in accordance with sections 45 to 56 of the Customs Act.

Gross domestic product by industry, April 2011

The following is excerpted from a 30 June 2011 report by Statistics Canada. Real gross domestic product was unchanged in April after increasing 0.3% in March. Both the goods-producing and the services sectors remained unchanged in April.

Help-Wanted Index: June 2011

The Conference Board of Canada’s Help-Wanted Index is an indicator of the number of new jobs advertised online. Our empirical analysis has shown that variations in the number of jobs posted online are generally followed by similar variations in employment in the ensuing months. Thus, the index can be used to predict near-term employment trends.

WCO Open Day for Trade Reinforces Customs-Business Partnership

Although this was a WCO-ICC event, CSCB President Carol West spoke on the opening panel, with WCO Deputy Secretary General Sergio Mujica and Mr. Nabyl Lakhdar, Director, Facilitation and Information Technology, Moroccan Customs Administration. Speaking in her role as Chair of the WCO Private Sector Consultative Group, Ms. West presented some PSCG and personal views about the Private Sector Perspective: A Shared Vision for Future Collaboration.
