Canadian Automakers Make Sharp U-Turn Back To Profitability

The restructuring in the auto sector is starting to pay off for Canada’s automakers – the industry is expected to return to profitability this year, according to The Conference Board of Canada’s Canadian Industrial Outlook: Canada’s Motor Vehicle Manufacturing Industry-Autumn 2010.

S. Korean Trade Deals Put Pressure on Canada

The following is from today's edition of CTV.ca. Canadian companies risk losing ground in South Korea now that both the United States and the European Union have sealed free-trade deals with the Asian export powerhouse. Canadian beef exporters, for example, will face a 40 per cent price penalty compared to their U.S. rivals if the U.S. Congress ratifies a landmark agreement completed in recent days.

Canadian economic picture far brighter than it appears

The following is from the 6 December 2010 edition of "globeandmail.com". The Bank of Canada is nearly certain to leave interest rates unchanged at Tuesday’s policy meeting. Canada’s economic growth is slowing below the bank’s forecast, underlying inflation is hardly an issue and the escalating debt crisis in Europe is just one of several international concerns. These are definitely not the conditions in which to hike interest rates.

Dumping file #: 4214-12 Dumping case #: AD/1358 Subsidy file #: 4218-21 Subsidy case #: CVD/118 The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has today initiated a re-investigation, in accordance with the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA), of the normal values and export prices of certain copper pipe fittings originating in or exported from the United States of America, the Republic of Korea and the People's Republic of China and the amounts of subsidy of the same products originating in or exported from the People's Republic of China.

Pilot Project Applications Ready to Facilitate Interprovincial Trade

Fulfilling a promise made at the Agriculture ministers' meeting in July, the Government of Canada will invest up to $3 million for a series of pilot projects that will investigate and help better position provincial meat processors to move their safe, high quality product across the country while keeping with Canada's high federal food safety standards.

Canada extends deadline for stimulus program

The following is a 2 December 2010 news release by Reuters Canada. Canada will extend the deadline to complete projects funded by its two-year C$48 billion ($48 billion) stimulus program by seven months, to help offset a slowing economy, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said on Thursday. The government will now cut off projects on Oct 31, 2011. It initially said all projects had to be finished by March 31, 2011, prompting complaints from local authorities who said they needed more time.

New import requirements for products of animal origin destined for Vietnam

If you interested in exporting products to the Vietnamese market beyond December 31st, 2010, you are kindly requested to complete, sign and date the following template for " Appendix 3 - Summary on Food Hygiene and Safety conditions for the food business operator". A second Appendix 3 template which includes some explanatory information under each item is included for your reference.

Beef and Veal Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) in 2011

The 2011 TRQ level established for Beef & Veal is 76,409,000 kg, within which there are two country-specific reserves: an allocation of 29,600,000 kg reserved for imports from New Zealand (NZ) and an allocation of 35,000,000 kg reserved for imports from Australia. The balance of the TRQ, 11,809,000 kg (known as the Most-Favoured Nation reserve), is reserved for imports from all other eligible suppliers (currently Uruguay and Japan), including those from New Zealand and Australia once their country-specific allocations are filled.

CBSA Message: Exchange rate for Myanmar (Burma) Kyat (MMK)

The following message is from CBSA (EDI10-107). The exchange rate, effective November 26, 27, 28, 29, 2010, for Myanmar (Burma) Kyat (MMK), has been corrected. The correct rate should have read .1831. Using the incorrect exchange rate will cause an error in the value for duty. The CCS system has been updated to show the correct exchange rate for this period.

PKI Maintenance Schedule (EICS Web and EDI)

The PKI Certificate Authority (ICM) is scheduling system maintenance during the weekend 03-05 December 2010. The PKI Directory Service will be transferred to a back-up system on Friday December 3 2010 between 20:00 and 24:00 hrs (midnight) ET, and will revert to the main system on Sunday December 5th between 14:00 and 18:00 hrs ET. PKI services may be intermittently unavailable during these switchovers.
