eManifest Poster Available

CBSA has advised that an eManifest poster, “ATTENTION Highway Carriers!” (BSF5128) is available. CSCB members may wish to make these posters available to clients and in their offices. The purpose of this poster is to inform highway carriers of the upcoming implementation of eManifest in the highway mode. The 22” x 14” posters are bilingual with English on one side and French on the reverse.

December 2010 Monthly K84 Statement

Although payment for December 2010's monthly K84 statements will be due as usual on December 31, 2010, the CBSA realizes that the number of statutory holidays and where they fall during the work week create a challenge for clients. Therefore, the CBSA will not issue a late payment penalty or charge interest if the payment is received after December 31, 2010, but before January 4, 2011, 4:30 PM local time. Should payments be received after January 4, 2011, 4:30 PM local time, they will be subject to interest and penalties dating back to January 4, 2011.

World economic recovery slows as business expectations fall

Business expectations are falling worldwide despite improvements in the state of the global economy for the sixth consecutive quarter, according to the World Economic Survey (WES) published today by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the Munich-based Ifo Institute for Economic Research.

Day drives strong message of government restraint at OECD

The following is excerpted from a 15 November 2010 news release by Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat. The Honourable Stockwell Day, President of the Treasury Board and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, today concluded a trip to Venice, Italy, where he met with representatives of member countries of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to discuss improving public sector productivity as a key element in helping governments through the economic downturn and recovery.

Monthly Survey of Manufacturing

This information is excerpted from the 16 November release issued by Statistics Canada. Manufacturing sales decreased 0.6% in September to $45.1 billion. The decline in sales was concentrated mostly in the transportation equipment industry in Central Canada. Constant dollar manufacturing sales fell 1.4% in September. Despite the decrease, manufacturing sales in September were 17.7% higher than their most recent low in May 2009. Since then, sales have increased in 11 of the past 16 months.

Minister Day highlights trade potential with Vietnam while promoting Asia-Pacific Gateway

The following is a 12 November 2010 news release by Transport Canada. The Honourable Stockwell Day, President of the Treasury Board and Minister responsible for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, concluded a visit to Vietnam where he promoted the Asia-Pacific Gateway to an emerging Asian economy with growing trade ties to North American markets. He was joined by a Canadian business delegation including representatives from Canada’s major marine ports and terminals, railways and national logistics associations.
