CBP Considers Change to Broker Data Sharing

The following is excerpted from the 27 October 2010 edition of "American Shipper". U.S. Customs and Border Protection has proposed changing regulations pertaining to the obligations of customs brokers to keep importers’ information confidential. The proposed amendment would allow brokers, upon the importer's consent in a written authorization, to share importer information with affiliated entities related to the broker so that these entities may offer non-customs business services to the broker's importer clients.

Export Permits for Cryptographic Items

Foreign Affairs and International Trade’s website has been updated to provide information on the export of cryptography and information security. Cryptography controls are outlined on pages 30-31 in Category 5 - Part 2 ("Information Security") of Group 1 (the Dual-Use List) in the Export Control List, published in the Guide to Canada’s Export Controls.

Canada-EU Free Trade Deal Protest

CBP Initiates the Center of Excellence and Expertise and Account Executive Pilots

The following is a 22 October 2010 news release by CBP.gov. US Customs and Border Protection will launch two pilots on November 1, 2010 to further strengthen the agency’s relationships with its trade and business partners. The Center of Excellence and Expertise (CEE) pilot will develop comprehensive strategies to facilitate trade and manage risk within the pharmaceutical industry. Anne Maricich, the Assistant Port Director for Trade at the Los Angeles International Airport, will direct the pilot center.

CFIA Production Database Backup, 6 November

This is a reminder that a full database backup of the production database (PROD) is scheduled for Saturday November 6th, 2010 CFIA systems will be unavailable from 3am to 7am EST. Please note that full database backups of the production database (PROD) and normal maintenance services are scheduled for the first Saturday of every month between 3am and 7am EST.

Lamy: Doha a “stepping stone” to better trade rules in natural resources

Update to CFIA AIRS Website

Chapter 20 was published to change the release recommendation from "Refer to CFIA-ISC" to "Refer to CFIA-ISC - US Meat Shipments" for the following HS Code with the end use of "Other end uses" and the miscellaneous code of "Other than waiver" for the United States. 20.04.90.3001 - Vegetable preparations with more than 2% but less than 20 % meat - frozen This created a requirement version change for the same HS Code with the end use of "Cruise ships/direct supply". Please check your version number before submitting through EDI.

CBSA Signs Arrangement with Frontex

The CBSA is pleased to announce that the Agency has signed a working arrangement with Frontex, the European Union's border management coordination agency. The arrangement will promote cooperation between the two agencies on border security and management with a view to working towards a sustainable partnership. Through this arrangement, the CBSA and Frontex will cooperate in areas related to the exchange of best practices and strategic information, training, capacity-building, technology and participation in joint operations.
