NAFTA chemical case goes Canada's way

The lawyers at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade are not bragging about it—at least not to date—but they've just won an impressive victory in an $80 million-plus NAFTA lawsuit. Earlier this month, a panel of three arbitrators dismissed claims filed by the US chemical company Chemtura under Chapter 11 of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
Imported Food Section Regulatory Proposal - Update (2)

Members were advised yesterday, August 26th., that the CSCB had confirmed with CFIA that a non-resident importer cannot apply for, or be the holder of, an import licence under the Imported Food Section Regulatory Proposal. Additional information has been provided by CFIA, and this information regarding non-resident importers is reproduced below. For the purpose of the regulatory proposal, the importers would have to maintain a Canadian presence in order to apply for an import licence.
