New NEXUS lane now open at Abbotsford-Huntingdon border crossing

The following is excerpted from a 25 July 2012 news release by Canada Border Services Agency. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) today announced that NEXUS members can now enjoy crossing simply and smoothly into Canada at a new NEXUS lane at the Abbotsford-Huntingdon, British Columbia and Sumas, Washington border crossing. The lane is open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., seven days a week for entry into Canada.

U.S. Customs extends remote filing support

The following is from the 24 July 2012 edition of American Shipper. On Monday, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued a new directive that said three new forms are eligible to be submitted through its Remote Location Filing (RLF) process in its hybrid version. While Customs intends RLF to be a completely electronic process, its current regulations provide an interim hybrid time to allow Customs to review government agency documents alongside RLF data in its automated commercial platforms for verification and support purposes.

Preliminary Determination respecting certain liquid dielectric transformers from the Republic of Korea

Dumping case number: AD/1395 Dumping file number: 4214-35 On July 23, 2012, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) made a preliminary determination of dumping, pursuant to subsection 38(1) of the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA), in respect of liquid dielectric transformers having a top power handling capacity equal to or exceeding 60,000 kilovolt amperes (60 megavolt amperes), whether assembled or unassembled, complete or incomplete, originating in or exported from the Republic of Korea. Developing Countries Being Counted on to Bring World Economy Through European Fiscal Crisis

Developing countries have been given the tough task of supporting the global economy while Europe struggles to contain its debt crisis. Europe’s woes will slow the world economy to tepid growth in real gross domestic product (GDP) of 2.6 per cent in 2012 and three per cent in 2013, according to The Conference Board of Canada’s World Outlook-Summer 2012.

Canadian Pacific Message: Dangerous Goods Shipping Documents - 24-Hour Emergency Telephone Number

Transport Canada has recently tested a few of the “24-Hour Numbers” provided on dangerous goods shipping documents and found some of these numbers to be invalid. The purpose of this bulletin is to remind shippers and importers of their obligations and to advise that CP will follow-up Transport Canada’s findings with periodic audits of its own, and will apply Tariff 2 or Tariff 3 to any invalid “24-Hour Number”.
