Canadian dollar dips below 75 cents for 1st time since 2004

August 25, 2015

The Canadian dollar today dipped to just below the 75-cent level for the first time in more than a decade.

The dollar fell below the psychologically important threshold in the afternoon, hitting 74.95 cents US at mid-afternoon. That came after news on Tuesday that Stephen Harper had spoken with Bank of Canada governor Stephen Poloz. That's a negative for the dollar because it reinforces perceptions that Poloz and Harper are worried about the Canadian economy, which has shrunk for five months in a row.
