Export Controls Online (EXCOL) System Requirements

Members will recall that a note was sent on 2 March 2006 concerning EXCOL; this is found in the CSCB reference system, at http://www.cscb.ca/050/rs_prev_e.cfm?ID=12295.

Because EXCOL is a web-based application that runs under the Government of Canada’s “Secure Channel”, the system requirements are standard and quite simple.

Your computer’s browser environment must meet one of the following requirements:

Internet Explorer 5.5, 6.0 or 6.1; or
Netscape 8.0 International

with one of the following versions of MS Windows:

Microsoft Windows NT 4 SP4 and higher;
2000 Professional SP3 Millennium edition;
XP Home edition; or
XP Professional edition.

If you use a Macintosh, the operating system must be one of: OS 8.6, 9.x; or OSX in OS9 emulation.

In order to support the epass login via Secure Channel, which must install a small Java applet on the PC, your system must have:

Sun Java Runtime Environment V. 1.4.2_01 or higher.

You can download the most current Sun Java.

To determine which version you have, click the button from Step 3 on that page, and let it run – it will tell you what is already installed.

Standard letters can be generated in any of the following formats:

Microsoft Word (.DOC)
Microsoft Excel (.XLS)
Adobe Acrobat’s Portable Document Format (.PDF)
