Request for Removal of Customs Duties on Imports of Horizontal Axially Split Single Stage Double Suction between bearing Centrifugal Pumps

The Department of Finance is currently reviewing a request for the removal of the customs duties on imports of horizontal axially split single stage double suction between bearing centrifugal pumps of an output exceeding 3,500 cubic metres/hour and head exceeding 250 metres. These centrifugal pumps are classified under tariff item No. 8413.07.90 of the Custom Tariff, dutiable at 6% under the Most-Favoured-Nation (MFN) Tariff. There is Free General Preferential Tariff (GPT) rate for these goods.

The applicant for duty relief claims that these centrifugal pumps are not available from Canadian production, and that tariff relief would enhance its competitiveness.

Members with an interest in this request are asked to contact Paul Robichaud at the Department of Finance 23 July 2008. Mr. Robichaud’s telephone number is (613) 992-2510, his e-mail address is [email protected].
