Secretary of State Guergis in Peru to Advance Trade Interests and Attend APEC Trade Ministers’ Meeting

The Honourable Helena Guergis, Secretary of State (Foreign Affairs and International Trade) (Sport), will be travelling to Peru from May 29 to June 1, 2008.

 

On May 29, Secretary of State Guergis will be… in Lima, for an important announcement to advance Canada’s trade relationship with Peru, open up new opportunities for Canadian business and pursue higher levels of environmental protection….

 

On January 26, 2008, Canada and Peru announced the conclusion of negotiations toward a Free Trade Agreement that will benefit Canadian exporters, service providers and investors in several sectors, including mining, financial services, manufacturing and agriculture.

 

Peru is acting as host for this year’s APEC meetings, giving Canada the opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to re-engagement with the countries of the Americas over the long term. Promoting our trade interests in the Americas and around the world opens up new markets for Canadian business and investors. These meetings culminate in the annual APEC Leaders’ Summit, which will take place in November 2008 in Lima….
