Suspicious package closes Rainbow Bridge

The following article is excerpted from the 6 August 2004 edition of “globeandmail.com”.

The Rainbow Bridge was closed for about three hours last night after a suspicious package was discovered.

Customs officers noticed the shoebox-sized package in the bus clearance lane on the major border crossing shortly after 7 p.m.

The Canada Border Services Agency asked the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission to shut down the bridge….

The Niagara Regional Police Emergency Response Unit was called in and a robot was used to destroy the package at about 9:30. The bridge was reopened about 30 minutes later. Officials would not comment on what was inside the package
