The Vancouver Port Authority said traffic totaled 1,035,189 TEUs, up from 853,238 TEUs in the same period a year ago, due to a shift in calls by CP Ships from British Columbia's Fraser River Port to Deltaport after the carrier was acquired by Hapag-Lloyd.

Loaded import containers increased 31 percent to 528,003 TEUs while laden exports gained nine percent to 378,103 TEUs. Import empties increased 27 percent and export empties were up 16 percent….

The port credited a strengthening Japanese economy for lumber exports that increased 12.7 percent on-year, and wood pulp exports that were up 12.2 percent….
