Wood Slats, Expiry Review No.: RR-2008-003

On November 7, 2008, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (Tribunal), pursuant to subsection 76.03(3) of the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA), initiated an expiry review of its findings made on June 18, 2004, in Inquiry No. NQ-2003-003, concerning wood slats originating in or exported from Mexico and the People’s Republic of China.

As a result, the President of the Canada Border Services Agency (President) commenced an investigation on November 10, 2008, to determine whether the expiry of the findings is likely to result in the continuation or resumption of dumping of the goods.

The investigation has now been completed and on March 6, 2009, pursuant to paragraph 76.03(7)(a)of SIMA, the President has determined that the expiry of the findings is likely to result in the continuation or resumption of dumping of the goods from Mexico and the People’s Republic of China.

A Statement of Reasons containing additional details concerning the determination made by the President will be issued within fifteen days.

The Tribunal will now conduct an inquiry to determine whether the expiry of the findings is likely to result in injury or retardation to the Canadian industry, and will make its decision by July 15, 2009.
