Organizations band together to eliminate duplication in air-cargo security

March 16, 2011

The following is from the 15 March 2011 edition of "montrealgazette.com".

Two intergovernmental organizations on Tuesday agreed to work together more closely to ensure international air cargo transport security and eliminate duplication.

In a joint statement, the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) said they will "expand co-operation between their two agencies in tackling threats to global air cargo security."

Their aim is to minimize the financial impact of security measures and to reduce "duplication in systems and processes, while enhancing synergies."

The two agencies said that "the end result will be a more effective and efficient response to current as well as new and emerging threats to the security of the global trade supply chain, a critical element of the world economy."
