Y2K Transition

As we head towards the millennium weekend, the CSCB would like to remind members of the contact information available concerning the forthcoming Y2K transition.

First, members who experience difficulties at their port after the CCRA systems are turned on at noon (ET) on 1 January should report these problems to their local Customs office; these problems will in turn be reported to the CCRA transition team at headquarters. In addition, the CSCB national office wishes to assist all members who are experiencing difficulty. Please let us know by phone (613-562-3543) or e-mail ([email protected]) of the nature of your problem, and we will address it as soon as possible.

Members who have difficulties or questions concerning permits from DFAIT may call 1-877-808-8838 (or 613-944-5359) for updates (these telephones will provide only updated information, but are not answered by a person). Y2K testing of the DFAIT system will take place at noon (ET) on 3 January 2000. If the system is returned to power successfully, the lines should be open after 2:00 pm (ET) and a message to on-line brokers to this effect will be sent from DFAIT. If there is no confirmation message from DFAIT, then the system is not yet available.

Those with problems concerning agricultural imports should contact the appropriate CFIA Import Service Centre, or contact the CSCB national office:

Eastern Import Service Centre
telephone: 1-877-493-0468
fax: 1-514-493-4103

Central Import Service Centre
telephone: 1-800-835-4486
fax: 1-905-612-6280

Western Import Service Centre
telephone: 1-888-732-6222
fax: 1-604-541-3373

Further information on the transition plans available at certain ports is available on the CSCB web site, at http://www.cscb.ca/new/ports.htm.

We look forward to a smooth transition to the twenty-first century for all members, and wish you the best for the year 2000.
