Request for Tariff Removal on Cut and Sewn Vinyl Covers re Upholstered Furniture

The Department of Finance has received a request for removal of the tariff on cut and sewn vinyl covers for use in the manufacture of upholstered furniture.

The product is classified under tariff item No. 9401.90.19.99 and is dutiable at eight per cent under the MFN Tariff. There is also a GPT rate of five per cent.

The applicant claims that this product is not available from Canadian sources, and that tariff relief would assist it to compete more effectively.
