Carrier Information

April 17, 2003

The CSCB received the following response from the CCRA to their question concerning specific information that must be listed on a Bill of Lading.

“All goods (including documents) on board a conveyance must be reported to Customs. Some carriers use a very general "cargo control document" (CCD) that simply refers to the goods in general and then relies on the attached bills of lading to provide the detail. In these cases the documents would have to be included on the bill of lading if they were not reported on the CCD.

Bottom line - the documents must be reported to customs - either on the CCD or the bill of lading - carrier's choice.”
