Pollution Prevention Planning for Products Containing Nonlyphenol and its Ethoxylates (NP and NPE’s)

Environment Canada (EC) has provided further information concerning the importation of products containing nonlyphenol and its ethoxylates, further to messages to members in August and November of 2002.

EC is currently developing a notice under Part 4 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 requiring the preparation and implementation of pollution prevention plans for products containing nonylphenol and its ethoxylates. This notice will target manufacturers and importers of soap and cleaning products, processing aids used in textile wet processing, and pulp and paper processing aids that purchase 1000 kg or more of NP and NPE’s in one calendar year between 1 January 2003 and 31 December 2012.

Members with an interest in receiving the working document outlining proposed pollution prevention planning requirements for products containing NP and NPE’s, as well as related proposed schedules and instructions, are asked to contact the CSCB national office, at [email protected]. EC is requesting comments from users by 31 July 2003.
