Rail Update – 8 March 2004

The following message is from CN.

Official negotiations between CN and the CAW have broken off, after a weekend of talks. No new formal bargaining sessions are planned, although informal dialogue with the union continues.

CN has withdrawn all offers to the CAW, including the one of Feb. 27 and supplementary offers. CN is not discussing the contents of its offers. In their place, terms of the agreement reached by CN and the CAW on Jan. 23, 2004, remain on the table.

CN continues to maintain near-normal operations across its network, although intermodal traffic has been affected by reduced numbers of truckers entering the company's terminals to deliver and pick up traffic.
