Brampton Intermodal Terminal – Growth Strategy

The following letter is from CN’s Customer Support Centre in Winnipeg.

Thank you for your support of CN’s Intermodal service. Growth in Canadian international trade requires the ability to grow in the Toronto market. Throughout the past year CN has introduced a number of initiatives to improve CN’s ability to handle your growth in Toronto. This has enabled CN to process over 50% more units than in 2002.

In order to support your continued growth, CN is introducing the following two initiatives:
In mid-January 2005 the existing gate appointment system for export shipments will be expanded to include destination port. By better managing the volume of exports arriving at the terminal in advance of their shipping date CN will be able to provide a more fluid and consistent service. CN will provide priority access to cut-off day appointments provided the shipper (or their agent) submits the appointment request within the defined time period.

The volume of import traffic grounded in CN’s Brampton terminal at the beginning of the week remains high. This is a direct result of limited pick-ups on weekends. As of 1 January 2005, the free time allowance for loaded import containers at CN’s Brampton terminal will be standardized at 2 days regardless of the day the container is placed into storage.

Should you require additional information on either of these initiatives, please contact your Account Manager. Thank you for choosing CN.
